Naperville Central's 15-game winning streak and bid for a first state baseball title since 2010 ended Friday, June 12, with a 9-1 loss to Maine South in the Class 4A semifinal at Slammers Stadium in Joliet.

Senior left fielder Michael Page refused to go quietly. The North Central College commit went 2-for-3 with a walk, scored the Redhawks' only run, and caught all three fly balls hit his way. He laced the game's first hit, an opposite-field single in the first inning, then pulled another single to right in the third. His season average climbed to .383.

"He's turned himself into a plus left fielder, and he's the best hitter I've seen consistently all season," head coach Mike Stock said. Stock noted Page hit safely in 14 of the team's 15 conference games and called his senior year "about as good as it gets."

The Redhawks couldn't capitalize around Page. They loaded the bases in both the first and third innings and stranded 10 runners overall. Five errors opened the door for Maine South (26-15), which scored three in the first and four in the second to build a 7-0 lead.

Senior Grant Umbright also went 2-for-3 with a walk, giving the top of the Naperville Central lineup life all afternoon.

The loss closes a landmark postseason for the program: a sectional title on June 6 (the first since 2012), a supersectional win over Minooka on June 8, and the deepest state tournament run in 16 years. The 30-10 Redhawks, carrying 17 seniors, still have one game left.

Naperville Central faces Mount Carmel in the Class 4A third-place game Saturday, June 13, at Slammers Stadium in Joliet.
