The Naperville Park District opened a two-week public comment window Thursday, July 16, for seven proposed 2027 capital improvement projects, headlined by new ballfield installations at Wolf's Crossing Community Park in southwest Naperville.

Residents can view project details and submit feedback through online questionnaires at napervilleparks.org/parkandfacilityimprovements through Thursday, July 30. No detailed designs have been developed yet. This is the window for families to shape what gets built before costs are set.

The Wolf's Crossing ballfields carry some history. The Park District originally pitched the improvements as part of a potential $135 million bond referendum in late 2025, with plans for two new ballfields, a ballfield hub, restrooms, and expanded parking. Residents surveyed in December 2025 ranked the Wolf's Crossing upgrades in the lowest priority tier, with a net priority score of negative 23 percent. The Board of Commissioners dropped the project from the scaled-back $119.75 million referendum that voters approved in March 2026. The ballfield installations are now being pursued through the district's annual capital budget process instead.

After a similar public comment process for Nike Sports Complex improvements in 2025, Eric Shutes, the Park District's director of planning, told the Chicago Tribune that resident feedback led staff to add an asphalt trail loop and water play features to that project's design.

The Park District has not released detailed designs or cost estimates for the 2027 Wolf's Crossing ballfields. The district said feedback collected during the comment window will be used by staff when formulating designs and costs for inclusion in the 2027 capital budget.

Beyond Wolf's Crossing, the 2027 project list includes playground renovations at three established neighborhood parks: Country Commons (919 School St.), Creekside Park (5307 Cedar Dr.), and Cress Creek Park (1311 Royal St. George Dr.). Plank Road Park (1355 Plank Rd.), a new neighborhood park in The Claire development near Naper Boulevard, is proposed for its first playground. Baileywood Park (1588 Oxford Ln.) is proposed for shoreline restoration, and Hobson Grove (1152 Blue Larkspur Ln.) for natural area management.

Wolf's Crossing Community Park sits on 33 acres at the intersection of Wolf's Crossing Road and Trumpet Avenue (3252 Wolf's Crossing Rd.) and is already popular for its challenge course and playground. The Park District has not announced when the Board of Commissioners will vote on the final 2027 capital budget. Residents who want to weigh in can submit comments at napervilleparks.org/parkandfacilityimprovements through Thursday, July 30.
