Naperville residents have until Monday morning, June 27, to drag storm-damaged branches and brush to the parkway for a free, one-time citywide pickup.
The City of Naperville Department of Public Works announced the special bulk brush and branch collection in response to severe thunderstorms that struck Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11. The National Weather Service listed Naperville among the hardest-hit areas in DuPage County, with roughly 380,000 customers losing power across Illinois and Indiana during the storm system. City crews have been responding to hundreds of service calls since.
Public Works and contractors will make one pass through the entire city between Monday, June 15, and Saturday, June 27. There is no second trip.
Residents do not need stickers, bags, cutting, or tying. Place unbagged brush and tree debris on the parkway in front of your home by Monday morning to be included.
Anyone who misses the single-pass collection must use the city's regular weekly yard waste program, which requires stickers, or hire a private tree removal company.
"My street was covered in downed trees," one Downtown Naperville resident wrote on Nextdoor the night of the June 10 storm.
The storms also forced the Naperville Park District to close Centennial Beach on Thursday, June 11, while crews cleared downed trees from several parks.
The city's brush collection window closes Saturday, June 27.
