DuPage County's court system will get a $1.71 million backup plan to keep operating remotely during disasters.

On June 16, The Judicial and Public Safety Committee approved the five-year contract with Logicalis, Inc. for disaster recovery services for the Clerk of the Circuit Court. The deal runs July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2031, averaging about $342,000 per year.

A county official presenting the contract to the committee called it "infrastructure to run the court system remotely in the event of a disaster."

The contract comes 14 months after a cyber incident knocked out DuPage's 18th Judicial Circuit Court systems for more than three weeks beginning April 28, 2025. That disruption shut down e-filing, orders of protection, and remote court proceedings before full restoration in late May 2025, according to a joint statement from Chief Judge Bonnie Wheaton and Clerk of the Circuit Court Candice Adams.

Committee Chair Lucy Evans opened the meeting by noting the severe weather that struck Naperville and Lisle the prior week, reporting no serious injuries and thanking county emergency staff.

A National Weather Service report confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down near Gartner Road and Oleson Drive on Thursday, June 11, traveled 1.3 miles through the Huntington Hills and Oleson Estates subdivisions and lifted just west of Benedictine University in Lisle.

The committee also authorized one new full-time position in the Coroner's Office, moved by member Brian Krajewski and seconded by Yeena Yoo. Members cited high staff turnover, noting that caseloads have not significantly increased. The office, led by Coroner Judith M. Lukas, handles roughly 6,500 cases annually.

Members recommended that Lukas or a representative attend future committee meetings in person.

The committee renewed Diana Hightower's contract as coordinator of the Family Violence Coordinating Council at $43,472 for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

The grant-funded position coordinates the county's response to domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse through the 18th Judicial Circuit Court.

All three items were sent to the Finance Committee and require final approval by the full DuPage County Board before taking effect.
