Naperville's all-volunteer community theater turns 60 this summer, and the curtain goes up with Frank Loesser's "Guys and Dolls" at Naperville Central High School.

Summer Place Theatre, founded in 1966 by Dr. Donald "Doc" Shanower to keep North Central College drama students acting through the summer, will run the musical comedy from Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 28. Director and choreographer Julia Cooke said the production immerses audiences in the world of Runyonland. "Please, leave your troubles at the door, and get invested," Cooke wrote on the theater's website. "Laugh out loud. Feel heartbreak and relief."

A second production, Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning "Rent," opens Friday, July 17, and runs through Sunday, August 2. That show carries a content advisory for strong language, drug references, and themes of HIV/AIDS; families should use discretion.

Both shows play Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the 890-seat auditorium at 440 Aurora Ave. (enter at Door 24, parking lot off Hillside). Free parking is available. ASL interpretation will be offered at select performances.

Season tickets, which cover both productions, cost $25 for adults and $22 for seniors (65+) and students (18 and under), plus a $1.50 online fee. Groups of 15 or more get 20% off. Tickets are available at summerplacetheatre.org/Tickets or by phone at 630-355-7969. Lobby doors open one hour before showtime.
