Put down the phone, lace up your shoes, and hit at least three Naperville parks between Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 19. That's the challenge from the Naperville Park District as part of the eighth annual Unplug Illinois campaign.
Residents who visit three of 15 featured parks, complete a suggested activity at each stop, and submit the online check-in form will be entered to win a $25 Park District gift card. The full park list and form are posted at www.napervilleparks.org/unplugnpd.
The activities range from nature-focused to facility-based. Birdwatching at the pavilion at Segar Park, identifying wildflowers at Wildflower Park, and walking a trail at Tall Grass Lakes are among the outdoor options. For families looking for built amenities, the Park District is pointing visitors to the newly renovated playground at Foxhill Greens Park, the Challenge Course at Wolf's Crossing Community Park, and Carillon Concerts on the Riverwalk.
Unplug Illinois is a statewide initiative organized by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. More than 100 park agencies across Illinois are participating, according to NCTV17. The Naperville Park District, which maintains 140 parks and offers more than 1,400 programs annually, is extending the single-day event into a nine-day local challenge.
City Hall week ahead

The board, led by President Leslie Ruffing, is expected to take up the district's three-year financial plan. The plan also includes early funding steps for the voter-approved community activity center at Frontier Sports Complex. The full agenda had not been posted as of Monday, June 23.
