A free Thanksgiving turkey dinner is one phone call away for Naperville families who need one.

Mesón Sabika, the Spanish restaurant at 1025 Aurora Ave., is taking reservations for complimentary traditional turkey dinners with all the trimmings, available for pickup on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26.

Restaurateur Hossein Jamali's program has run every year since 2001, according to Positively Naperville.

The dinners are for individuals and families in need, "no matter if the need is financial, physical or emotional," Jamali told Positively Naperville. There is no cost and no application process. You call, you reserve a dinner, you pick it up.

More than half the available dinners have already been claimed. As of Oct. 26, 2,500 of the 4,000 total dinners had been reserved across Mesón Sabika and its sister restaurant, Tapas Valencia, in Chicago.

That leaves roughly 1,500 slots between the two locations.

The deadline to call is Monday, Nov. 16.

To reserve a dinner at the Naperville location, call (630) 983-3000.

Pickup runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the restaurant, which sits in a historic 1847 mansion on four acres just west of downtown.

Both restaurants will be closed for dine-in service that day.

Naperville residents who prefer the Chicago location can call Tapas Valencia at (312) 842-4444.

That restaurant is at 1530 S. State St. The same Nov. 16 deadline and Thanksgiving Day pickup window apply.

Jamali has said he hopes residents will help spread the word to neighbors who could use the support.

The program has provided thousands of holiday meals over more than two decades, serving families across the western suburbs and Chicago.
