A Broadway musical about a teen banned from taking her girlfriend to prom opens at Center Stage Theater in Naperville on Friday, Sept. 25.
Theater for Charity is staging "The Prom" at Center Stage Theater, 1665 Quincy Ave., Suite 131, for six performances across two weekends. All profits from the production, along with 100% of concessions and raffle proceeds, go to Youth Outlook, an Illinois nonprofit that provides no-cost support for LGBTQ+ youth across more than seven suburban Chicago counties.
The musical follows a small-town high school student whose school bars her from bringing her girlfriend to prom. A group of Broadway actors arrives to help, bringing humor, heart and a fair amount of chaos.
That charity connection is central to the production. Theater for Charity selects a local charitable organization each season and donates all production profits to that group. This production's partner, Youth Outlook, describes itself as the first social service agency in Illinois solely dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth. The organization operates drop-in centers, family programs and educational outreach.

Center Stage Theater, founded by Executive Director Kandiss Hernandez, opened in 2010 and draws more than 30,000 community members to performances each year, according to the theater's website. The venue is ADA-compliant. The production has received grants from the Illinois Arts Council and DuPage County.
