Families on Muirhead Avenue lost access to the Meadow Glens Park parking lot Monday, July 27, as crews broke ground on a $447,270 project that will expand the lot and add two sand volleyball courts to the neighborhood park.
The Naperville Park District announced the closure Saturday, July 25, on its official social media account, asking visitors for patience during construction. The park itself remains open, but anyone driving to the park at 1303 Muirhead Ave. will find the lot fenced off for the duration of the work.
The district has not announced an end date for construction or provided alternate parking guidance for visitors. Peggy Motta, a Park District staff member, told the Riverwalk Commission at its Wednesday, May 13 meeting that the new volleyball court "would be ready for next year," placing the target completion in the 2027 season.
How the project got here
The Park District Board of Commissioners approved the construction contract at its Thursday, June 11 meeting as a consent agenda item. The board awarded the base bid to Innovation Landscape, Inc. at $425,972.23, with a 5 percent contingency bringing the total authorized spending to $447,270. A competing bid from Obsidian Asphalt Paving, Inc. was rejected for failing to submit a responsive proposal.
The project first appeared before the full board as a discussion item at the Thursday, May 28 meeting. Separate board records also reference a grant-funded playground and fitness station renovation at Meadow Glens, indicating the park is the subject of multiple capital improvements this year.

Meadow Glens Park sits about one block from Meadow Glens Elementary School (District 203) on Muirhead Avenue, making it a heavily used amenity for families walking to and from school. The parking expansion should ease congestion once complete, but the closure during construction eliminates the only dedicated lot for the park.
