Democrat Yeena Yoo led Republican incumbent Gwen Henry with 72,467 votes (59.9%) to Henry's 48,465 votes (40.1%) out of 120,932 votes counted in the DuPage County treasurer race on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to unofficial results from DuPage County Clerk.
Yoo's lead stood at 24,002 votes. The count was not complete, with zero of 600 reporting units having reported as of 8:52 p.m.
If the lead holds, Yoo would end Henry's two-decade run as treasurer. Henry has held the office since 2006.
What was at stake
The DuPage County treasurer manages the deposit, investment and distribution of county funds.
The office also serves as the county's property tax collector, processing more than $2 billion in property taxes each year and distributing them to more than 300 taxing districts, including municipalities, townships, school districts and service agencies, according to the treasurer's office.
That makes the office one Naperville homeowners deal with directly every tax season.
The key issues:
- Yoo, a DuPage County Board member representing District 2 since 2022, campaigned on expanding outreach so residents learn about property tax exemptions they may qualify for, according to her Ballotpedia page.
- Henry, a certified public accountant, oversaw the office through a recent software transition to replace its mainframe tax system, according to the county treasurer's website.
- The office reported that DuPage County's 2025 property tax levy totaled $3,756,793,481, with an overall bill increase of 3.83%, according to the treasurer's office.
A little history
Henry, a Republican, has served as DuPage County treasurer since 2006, according to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
She previously served on the DuPage County Board and as mayor of Wheaton. Her current term expires Nov. 30, 2026, according to the county's elected officials page.
Yoo has served on the DuPage County Board since 2022 and as a commissioner on the Elmhurst Senior Citizens Commission since 2021. She holds a law degree from Washington University.
The Chicago Tribune described the race as Henry facing a challenger in her reelection bid.
What's next
The results remain unofficial until the canvass is complete. The DuPage County Clerk has until Nov. 24 to canvass the results. Under Illinois law, provisional ballots and eligible mail ballots received after Election Day must be validated and counted by Nov. 17.
