Naperville families can catch a one-night-only charity concert by 100 physician-musicians at Wentz Concert Hall on Friday, Sept. 11.

The World Doctors Orchestra takes the stage at 7 p.m. inside North Central College's Fine and Performing Arts Center (171 E. Chicago Ave.) for a program spanning Rimsky-Korsakov's "Russian Easter Overture," Copland's "Lincoln Portrait," Florence Price's "Concert Overture No. 2" and Rachmaninoff's "Symphonic Dances." Stefan Willich conducts, with Bishop Wayne Miller narrating the Copland piece. Tickets are $20 to $40, with all proceeds going to two Chicago nonprofits: Chi-Care, which delivers food and healthcare supplies to unhoused and underserved communities, and UI Health's Community Outreach Intervention Projects (COIP), a public-health program founded in 1986.

The orchestra draws from more than 2,000 doctors across 60 countries who cover their own travel to rehearse and perform charity concerts. The Naperville date is part of the group's 52nd concert session; through prior sessions, the WDO has raised more than 2 million euros for medical causes worldwide, according to its website. The orchestra also plays Harris Theater in Chicago on Saturday, Sept. 12.

NCC alumna headlines jazz series opener

The following Friday, Sept. 18, jazz vocalist Alyssa Allgood returns to the campus where she earned her bachelor's degree in jazz studies and organizational communication. She opens the North Central College Jazz Faculty Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. in Madden Theatre. Tickets are $15.

Since graduating, Allgood has performed at Birdland, Dizzy's Club and the Chicago Jazz Festival. DownBeat Magazine has named her a Critics Poll Rising Star multiple times, and the Chicago Reader voted her Best Individual Jazz Musician in 2024. Her 2024 album, From Here, was recorded with Geoffrey Keezer, John Patitucci, Kendrick Scott and Greg Ward.

NCC Fine Arts announced on X that the college is welcoming Allgood back as the first guest artist of this season's faculty recital series. She'll perform original compositions and jazz standards alongside NCC jazz faculty, according to the college's September arts calendar.
