The fireworks show that storms washed out on the Fourth of July is back on the calendar. Naperville families can grab their blankets and lawn chairs and head to Frontier Sports Complex on Saturday, August 8, at 9:30 p.m. for the free rescheduled Naperville Community Fireworks Show.

The Naperville Park District announced the new date in a press release on Wednesday, July 8, after working with the City of Naperville and the fireworks vendor to lock down the makeup show. The original July 4 event was canceled after forecasts called for additional storms that afternoon and evening. Between Thursday, July 3, and Saturday, July 5, Naperville received 4 to 6.5 inches of rain across the city, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Kluber. The DuPage River overflowed its banks and flooded the Riverwalk.

What's different this time

One change families should note: the Naperville Municipal Band will not perform a pre-fireworks concert on August 8. On Friday, July 3, the band's concert was cut short by severe weather threats, though the audience did get to hear the traditional "1812 Overture" before the skies turned. The rescheduled show is fireworks only.
