The Naperville Municipal Band's Kids Concert canceled for the first time in years after severe storms hit Central Park.

The free concert will take place at the Naperville Community Concert Center in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m.

Heavy winds and thunderstorms on Wednesday, June 10 damaged trees and four park benches in the park. When foul weather returned by mid-afternoon Thursday, June 11, Music Director Emily Binder made the call to cancel that evening's Kids Concert.

Positively Naperville reported the cancellation was the first in "many, many years," noting that "Mother Nature has been good to Thursday evenings."

The June 10 storm was severe enough to prompt a special citywide brush collection by the city's Department of Public Works, beginning the week of June 15. Other Greater Chicago Area suburbs are receiving tornado warnings beginning June 17.

The June 25 show is the fourth performance in the band's 10-week summer season, which runs every Thursday through mid-August. All concerts are free. The Kids Concert starts at 7 p.m.; regular Thursday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics. A bake sale accompanies each concert. For updates, visit napervilleband.org or call 630-778-9994.
