That dusty figurine your spouse keeps threatening to toss? It might finally get the respect it deserves.

Naper Settlement is hosting "That Belongs in a Museum," a lighthearted adults-only competition where participants bring their most curious, sentimental or downright strange objects and make a case to the crowd for why they deserve museum status. The event runs Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the historic village, 523 S. Webster St.

The evening is part of Naper Settlement's ongoing Craft By Beer series, which pairs themed programming with drinks for guests 21 and older. Previous editions have included Paint by Beer on Jan. 29 and America 250 History on Tap Trivia on July 2, according to Positively Naperville. Registration is required, and spots are limited.

The format mixes heartfelt storytelling with comedic show-and-tell moments, according to the event listing on Visit Naperville. Participants compete for bragging rights by presenting garage sale treasures, family heirlooms or bizarre finds and explaining their museum-worthy significance. The competition celebrates what the listing calls the quirky, personal and unexpected sides of history.

Naper Settlement announced the event on X on Aug. 22, encouraging residents to bring objects they believe belong behind glass.

The collectibles showcase is one of several 21-and-older events on Naper Settlement's fall calendar. Howlin' at the Moon, the venue's Halloween bash featuring live music, fire dancing, a costume contest and a Food Truck Graveyard, returns Oct. 23-24.
