Families who rely on Loaves & Fishes for more than groceries will have a new place to get help by 2027.

The nonprofit, which operates the Naperville Market at 1871 High Grove Lane, has purchased the 10,000-square-foot office building next door at 1879 High Grove Lane. The space will become a centralized hub for the organization's CARES programs, which provide emergency financial assistance, job support, English classes, health screenings and tax preparation to low-income families, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Loaves & Fishes serves about 10,000 people each week across DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties. The organization describes itself as the largest food pantry in Illinois.

President and CEO Mike Havala told the Tribune the new building will give staff private rooms for client consultations and space for larger group classes. Havala said some portions of the building were expected to be available as early as August, with the full transition to CARES program spaces expected by 2027.

"Having additional space for our CARES programs will help us serve more clients," Havala said. "We'll have more space for programs, classes, meeting with people in the community in bigger groups."

The purchase price was not disclosed. The acquisition is part of Loaves & Fishes' $15 million Nourish Together campaign, which in July secured roughly $2 million through a New Markets Tax Credit transaction, Positively Naperville reported.

The same campaign is funding a 32,000-square-foot addition to the organization's Aurora Food Distribution Hub. That expansion, dubbed "Hub 2.0," is under construction and expected to serve two to three times more people per week, according to NCTV17.

In its 2026 fiscal year, Loaves & Fishes distributed nearly $845,000 in emergency assistance. The organization also saw a 56.5% jump in client participation in health screenings and vaccine clinics, according to the Tribune report.

Mary Boulos, assistant vice president of CARES programs, said in an Aug. 26 Positively Naperville report that the new space will give clients "greater privacy, space better suited for personalized support and a better overall experience."

Fundraising for both the Naperville building and the Aurora hub is ongoing. Loaves & Fishes hosts its Night to End Hunger fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 18, at Hotel Arista, featuring a live auction to support the Nourish Together campaign.
