Grab a blanket and the kids. The Naperville Park District is screening Shrek under the stars at Rotary Hill on Friday, Aug. 21, and the whole evening is free.
Movie Bingo kicks off at 7 p.m., giving families an hour of pre-show activity before the film rolls at 8 p.m. The hill sits near Aurora Avenue adjacent to Moser Tower, home of the Millennium Carillon, along the Riverwalk.
No tickets, no registration, no cost.
The screening is part of the Park District's "A Night at the Movies" series, which launched its summer schedule on July 31 with Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey at the same location. That first showing was canceled due to weather, so Friday's Shrek night will be the first screening of the summer to actually unspool on the hill.
The Naperville Park District posted the event details on Monday, Aug. 17. At least one more screening remains on the calendar: Zootopia 2 on Friday, Sept. 18, at Rotary Hill, with Bingo at 7:30 p.m. and the film at 8:30 p.m.
What to know before you go: Rotary Hill is an open lawn with no reserved seating. Bring chairs or blankets, snacks and bug spray. If weather looks threatening, check the Park District's Rainout Line at napervilleparks.org/cancellations before heading out.
